Published right on time for summer reading, the latest volume of POLIS’ Cities in motion magazine, titled ‘Pathways to Progress,’ explores the transformative power of holistic sustainable urban mobility solutions. This newest issue features a comprehensive article on the innovative use of video games in urban planning, with a spotlight on the ELABORATOR project.
In its dedication to designing sustainable urban mobility, ELABORATOR is leveraging gamification methods to engage diverse user groups in co-creating safer, more inclusive public spaces. The article delves into how ELABORATOR's approach aims to enhance urban mobility planning by involving local communities, including vulnerable populations. Led by our partner IAAC, the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, they are developing a new version of SuperBARRIO, an open-source game that will enable citizens to engage in public space planning, highlight mobility issues, and test various solutions. The game, initially used for designing Barcelona’s Superblock, will now focus on improving mobility in Milan, Trikala, and Zaragoza. Players' input will aid local decision-makers in making informed choices. Test-play workshops will be held in these cities in the coming months.
